Robert Bernstein is now officially wild. And when he returns to Central Park a month from now, the former Cornell star hopes to be even more than that.

Bernstein received a free ride into the qualifiers of the $250,000 OTB Open Aug.19-25 by clinching the championship of the Schenectady County Tennis Association's annual Open Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Bernstein, who came all the way from Rochester for the sole purpose of earning the precious wild card, defeated 1989 champ and No.2 seed Barry Ruback of Oakland, N.J., 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in the final.
