NSW: Bank workers march through Sydney

About 500 Westpac and National Australia Bank workers are marching through Sydney as
part of a nationwide strike against three of the major banks.

The bank workers attended a stop work meeting in Sydney, and will stay on strike for
24 hours over job numbers and workloads.

The workers were marching to Darling Harbour to protest outside Westpac's shareholder
AGM being held today.

They were joined by more than 1,500 Westpac, ANZ and NAB staffers in Melbourne who
today also voted to strike for 24 hours.

Staff are also striking in Launceston and Newcastle with ANZ workers in Sydney due
to strike tomorrow to coincide with the company's AGM here.

The Financial Sector Union's NSW secretary GEOFF DERRICK says the union expects more
workers to walk off the job later today, as stopwork meetings conclude.

But he stresses the union is not in the business of closing branches.
