VIC: Annual car checks a not so roadworthy idea, say some

MELBOURNE, Feb 8 AAP - A Victorian plan for compulsory annual roadworthy checks on cars
today drew mixed reactions.

The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) opposed the move, saying it would not help
road safety, but the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) said compulsory checks
would mean safer cars and fewer accidents.

Victorian Roads Minister Geoff Craige said the New South Wales system of yearly checks on
cars more than three years old would be considered as part of a parliamentary road safety
committee review in …
